10/30/14- SportScapes Unlimited arrived at Shaker Hills today to provide our greens with a deep tine aerification. The machine seen on these tractors is known as a Verti-Drain which plunges its tines about ten inches deep into the soil. This practice helps us alleviate any compaction on the greens, while increasing oxygen exchange in the root zone giving us healthier roots and stronger turf. Greens were rolled immediately after this process and will be rolled for the next couple of days ensuring proper roll and speed. Thank you for reading and we hope everyone is enjoying fall golf here at Shaker Hills!
11/13/14- Frost delayed mornings and falling leaves mean the 2014 season is coming to a close. The irrigation system was blown out last week and we continue the daily task of leaf cleanup. Upcoming tasks for the crew include bringing in course accessories; topdressing greens with sand to add protection during the harsh winter weather, and treating greens/tees/fairways with a fungicide spray to prevent snow mold disease. Stay tuned for upcoming posts about winter projects and updates, and feel free to leave a comment or question. We hope everyone enjoyed playing golf at Shaker Hills this season and enjoy the holidays!Add a comment
