PAR 4 | 412 YDS
The incoming nine begins with a trio of par fours that
provide an interesting study in contrast. The tenth is
an uncomplicated, straightaway par 4, and the tee-to-green
trip is not particularly menacing.

PAR 4 | 410 YDS
Another of
Shaker Hill's elevated tee complexes overlooks the valley
that serves as the landing area fro this tester. From
there, it takes a crisply-struck medium iron for an uphill
approach to an elusive target.

PAR 4 | 395 YDS
Number 12 can
be a drive on the wild side. It measures only "395" yards,
and you can see all the way to the green from an elevated
tee. The plateaued fairway bends right and is honed up
along the right by a rock wall (fittingly called the Stone
Wall of Sorry!) that outlines a waste area. Players are
invited to bite off a s much of the dogleg as they dare.
No place for pride or greed. |
PAR 3 | 164 YDS
The 13th tee
stands 90 feet above the fairway and commands a breathtaking
view of central Massachusetts countryside, with Mount
Wachusett in the distance. Once the sightseeing is over,
it takes a high iron from this lofty perch to reach the
large green below. Check the wind before selecting a club.
|
PAR 4 | 315 YDS
You
needn't be long for this little tester, but you'd better
be straight off the tee. Fairway bends left and a drive
that strays too far left will have to contend with an
outcropping of ledge. You might want to leave your driver
in the bag and hit something safe. Small plateaued green
is flanked by bunkers. |
PAR 5 | 563 YDS
Most
players will need three shots to get home on this lengthy
par 5 because the green is tucked in a corner and is fronted
by wetlands area. A judicious lay up leaves a high iron
approach to a large amphitheater green. .
|
PAR 3| 230 YDS
The 16th is
the last of the on-shotters and, at 230 yards from the
Gold markers, it presents a prodigious challenge. birdies
on this not-so-little beauty are a rarity. |
PAR 4 | 352 YDS
The 17th is
a modest par 4 that plays straightaway with no particular
threats. Take advantage of this breather to rest up for
the 18th, which is destined to become one of the truly
memorable finishing holes anywhere.
|
PAR 4 | 460 YDS
Welcome to
the 18th tee! You're almost home, but there's a little
work left. First chore is to carry your drive over a large
waste area, then you need to plan your next shot around
an outcropping of ledge which splits the fairway. All
in all, a fitting conclusion to a truly memorable golfing
experience. |
